Frequently asked questions

Does air conditioning heat as well as cool?

Yes. Most modern split systems are heat pumps that run in both directions. Read how it works in winter.

What affects energy use?

Energy use depends on the unit’s efficiency, your set point, run time and insulation. Your tariff decides the bill; ask your supplier for your rates. Read the energy guide.

Is it noisy?

Indoor units are very quiet on their lower settings. The outdoor unit makes some noise, which is why placement matters.

Will it replace my boiler?

Not usually on its own. Air conditioning heats rooms but doesn’t make hot water. Many homes use both.

How long does installation take?

A single split system (one indoor unit and one outdoor unit) is often fitted in a day.

Do I need planning permission?

It depends on your home and where the outdoor unit goes. Your installer will advise.

Does it need servicing?

Yes. An annual service keeps it running efficiently, and many manufacturers require one to keep the warranty valid.

What affects installation planning?

Installation needs vary from home to home. An installer can explain the work your home needs.
